Privacy at a glance

BeBack keeps your saved places private to you, and we don’t sell your information or show ads.

Who we are

BeBack (beback.net) is a small business based in Alberta, Canada. In this policy, “BeBack”, “we” and “us” mean that business.

Our Privacy Officer is responsible for how BeBack handles personal information. You can reach them at support@beback.net.

What information we collect

We collect only what BeBack needs to work.

Shared place listings. When you save a place that Google Maps lists, we keep one public record of its name, address and location, which any BeBack user saving the same place also uses. Other users cannot see that you saved it, and your category, status, rating and notes stay private to you. Places you create yourself by clicking the map are private to you.

How we use your information

We use your information only to run BeBack for you:

We do not sell or rent your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone for their own marketing. If we ever want to use it for a new purpose, we will ask for your consent first.

Sharing places

When you share places, the person you share with sees your email address, your message, the shared places, and your notes if you include them. Replies to the share email go to your email address. The share email itself lists up to 10 of the places, with their addresses and (if you include them) your notes, so a copy of these stays in the other person’s email even if you later delete your account. They can save copies of the places to their own account; their copies are theirs, and later changes on either side don’t affect the other.

If someone shares places with you, we store your email address with that share so you can see it when you sign in with that address. You don’t need a BeBack account to receive a share email. If you’d like shares sent to you removed, contact us at support@beback.net.

To prevent misuse, each account can share up to 20 times a day, with up to 100 places per share, and send up to 20 share emails a day. To enforce these limits we keep a record of when you create and send shares (not what’s in them) for 30 days.

Your location

BeBack never stores or tracks your current location.

We use it to list My Places nearest to you first (the default order), for the “go to my current location” button on the map, and for “Show the map around me” for new accounts. Your browser or phone asks your permission the first time. Your location is then used on your device to sort your list or move the map. It is not sent to our database or kept. If you don’t allow location access, My Places is listed newest first instead.

If you’ve already allowed location access and haven’t saved any places yet, BeBack may use it once to start the map around your area.

Like any online map, Google loads the map for whatever area you are viewing, so Google receives requests for that area. You can say no to location access, or turn it off in your browser or phone settings, and still use the rest of BeBack.

Service providers and storage outside Canada

We use these service providers to run BeBack. Each receives only the information it needs to do its job for us.

Because some of these providers store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries and accessible to their courts and authorities. We remain responsible for your information and choose providers that protect it.

This policy is our written information about our service providers outside Canada. Our Privacy Officer can answer any questions about how they collect, use, disclose or store your information: support@beback.net.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of BeBack users or others.

Cookies and storage on your device

BeBack uses only what it needs to work, and no advertising or analytics cookies.

Google Maps may set its own cookies when the map loads, under Google’s policies.

How long we keep information, and deleting your account

We keep your account and saved places until you delete them.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable safeguards for an app of BeBack’s size:

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach of your personal information creates a real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, as the law requires.
