BeBack gives you one simple place to save the restaurants, stays and experiences you want to remember, whether they’re halfway around the world or around the corner.

  1. Find a Place

Start with the BeBack map. Use the search bar to find a restaurant, hotel, attraction or other location using Google Maps. Select it and BeBack loads it into Remember This Place (on a phone, it slides up from the bottom). If you’ve saved it before, BeBack opens your saved version instead. If Google Maps doesn’t list the place, click an empty point on the map (on a phone, press and hold), name the custom location and save the exact coordinates.

  2. Choose a Category

FOOD is for restaurants, cafés, bars, bakeries and memorable food or drink experiences. STAY is for hotels, resorts, vacation rentals, lodges, cabins and campgrounds. EXPERIENCE is for attractions, beaches, hikes, tours, museums, viewpoints and other places worth remembering. Saved markers show F, S or X for the category.

  3. Choose a Status

Category says what the place is. Status says what it means to you. Use WANT TO GO for somewhere you have discovered, BEEN THERE for somewhere you have experienced, and I’LL BE BACK! for the places you would happily return to. Map markers are coloured by status: blue for Want to Go, green for Been There and gold for I’ll Be Back.

  4. Add Your Memory

Tap up to five stars to rate it (tap the same star again to clear it), and add notes for your future self. Remember the table you liked, what to order, which room to request, the best time to visit, or anything else that made the experience worth remembering. You can also use simple keywords in Notes almost like personal tags. For example, add Fishing, Fly Fishing, Cabin, Family Trip, Patio, Hiking or Sunset when those words may help you find the place later. There is no special tagging system to learn: Search My Places already searches your Notes.

  5. Explore My Places

Everything you save appears in My Places and on the map. Use Search My Places to instantly find saved places by name, address, notes, category or status. Type several words to narrow it down: “tokyo sushi” finds sushi places in Tokyo. Because Notes are searchable, keywords you add there can work like personal tags. Search Fishing, for example, to find saved places where you included Fishing in your Notes. Search always looks through your complete collection, wherever the map is. When you aren’t searching, My Places lists what’s in the current map area; check Show All My Places to list everything. As you search, My Places and the saved BeBack map markers update to the matching results, and the map zooms to fit them all. Tap the FOOD, STAY, EXPERIENCE and status buttons to narrow the list, and use Sort to change the order. Places are listed nearest to you first when location is allowed, otherwise newest first; you can also sort by highest rated or A–Z. Select a result to jump to it on the map.

  6. Go Back to a Saved Place

Select a My Places card or saved BeBack marker. The map focuses on the saved location and the information loads back into Remember This Place.

  7. Update Your Memories

Change WANT TO GO to BEEN THERE, promote a favourite to I’LL BE BACK!, update a rating, revise notes or rename a custom location. Choose Update Place to save the changes.

  8. Get Directions

Choose Directions ↗, next to the address, to open Google Maps separately with the selected BeBack location as the destination. This works for Google-listed locations and custom places.

  9. Remove Places

Select the place in My Places or on the map, then use Delete Place at the bottom of its details when you no longer want it in the collection. On a phone, press and hold it until the red bar fills, so a tap while scrolling can’t delete anything. Changed your mind? Tap Undo in the message that appears. To change your password, or delete your account and everything in it permanently, use Account (on a phone, it’s in the ☰ menu at the top right).

  10. Share Places

Use Search My Places, the filters or the map to list the places you want to share, then choose Share these places. Enter the other person’s email address, add a message if you like, and decide whether to include your notes. BeBack emails them a link, and they’ll find the places under Shared, where they can save any of them to their own My Places. If they don’t use BeBack yet, they can create a free account with that email address. Places you’ve already shared with the same person are skipped unless you choose otherwise.

  11. Put BeBack on Your Phone

Open beback.net on your phone and add it to your home screen for quick, full-screen access. On iPhone, in Safari tap ••• then Share (or just the Share button on older iPhones), then Add to Home Screen, and leave Open as Web App on. On Android, choose Install app from the browser menu. Sign in once in the new app and your places are all there.

Your world. Your places.

BeBack isn’t about building somebody else’s list of the world’s best places. It’s about building yours.

The restaurant around the corner you love. The hotel you’d stay at again. The place you found by accident. The experience someone told you not to miss. The hidden viewpoint you marked yourself. Or the place halfway around the world you’re determined to visit again.
